Here is Johan Gaume of France snowboarding on the flightpath to Heathrow in London in October.

Steve Parry Memorial

I went to Steve Parry's memorial service today at Wembley Stadium. Steve, former Reuters sports editor and friend to many, died one day before the start of the Beijing Olympics. I've worked with Steve at Reuters and also had many pleasurable dealings with him in his IOC and London 2012 role but I had no idea he was in both Eastenders and this music video. Just great.

Boris Yeltsin

I always enjoyed photographing Boris Yeltsin. I've made pictures of him at various G8 summits in the past, always animated. This sequence is from a vist to London sometime in the mid nineties.

PhotoVoice Auction

I'm very happy to say that my Lehman photo sold for a few hundred pounds at last night's enjoyable Photovoice auction.

Group Photo

I shot this sequence of pictures from my hotel room at the end of the Olympics in Beijing. It shows the 'Public Health' employees having their group photo taken. I love the photographer's precision in getting everyone in exactly the correct position so that when he hits the timer all he needs to do is run to his place. Also strange to see a tiny camera on a tripod. I wonder if he bought it along especially for the shot.

Beijing - Airport

These were shot whilst waiting at Beijing Airport for check in. They are reflections and the images have been rotated for effect.

Beijing - Baggage Hell

This was the scene on the tarmac at Beijing Airport yesterday. Only 1 out of 3 of my bags made it back to London. I somehow expected it.

Still Only 20p

Looking out towards the Isle of Wight from The Pebble Beach, Stokes Bay, Gosport. Some amusing news from the Isle of Wight County Press.

‘68: The News, The Stories, The Photographs

Nice exhibition at the national theatre displaying how the IHT covered the events of 1968. I love the front pages all over the wall and in the book 12o Years of Front Page News.
Most noticeable is the dominance of Associated Press and United Press International pictures on all the front pages. All agency credited, but no photographer bylines back then. In fact UPI only used to add the photographer initials to the picture caption.

An Urban History of Photography

Street and Studio at Tate Modern is one of the best photography exhibitions since Tate Britain's How We Are. More here..

State Control

Love this from the EPUK site

Cliche

A view of London looking West from Canary Wharf down the River Thames. The sunset picture is a cliche but I could not resist making this picture last night from a vantage point rarely enjoyed by Londoners.

Read the Feed

I read an awful lot of photography and journalism blogs on my Google Reader and i've just created a shared feed which you can view here. It shows you all the stories I like. You can also use the RSS feed from my shared items here.

The Netherlands

I'm off to Rotterdam for a few days to stay with good friends and then on to Amsterdam for the World Press Photo award days. Very much looking forward to the Martin Parr lecture which will be streamed live. I attended his Photovoice lecture in London last year. Very entertaining.
